Your "Prom Night" is one of the evenings you will remember for the rest of your life.
There are many things you can do that will make the evening an especially enjoyable one. Of course everyone's idea of fun is different, so each of you will have slightly different needs, but there are some concerns and ideas that are relatively universal. These are three areas that we have found are asked about most often: How much will the evening cost? What are some ideas to make the evening more fun? and What should I do to prepare for unplanned occurrences? Remember, if you start planning three to four months in advance, you will best be able maximize your time and money.

Frequently Asked Questions
What styles do Prom Tuxedos come in?
Prom tuxedos come in many variations from the more traditional coats to fashion forward options in a range of lengths and colors. You can even create your own look using our Create-a-Tux feature.
Do I have to match my accessories to my date's dress?
Matching your date is entirely up to you (and your date). Note that your pictures will always look better if you coordinate accessories, like your tuxedo vest, with her prom dress. A neutral, like black, white, ivory, silver or gold, is a safe bet with any prom dress. Try Dress Your Date now.
Can I measure myself?
To get the perfect fit, it is very important to be professionally measured for your prom tuxedo. We have two convenient Fred's FormalWear locations where you'll receive great service and precise tuxedo measurements.
How much does it cost to rent a Prom Tuxedo?
Fred's FormalWear has many options to fit every budget, with prices starting at $49.99.
When should a Prom Tuxedo order be placed?
It is helpful to have all measurements taken and orders placed within one month of the prom date to ensure you can pick from the greatest selection of prom suits and tuxedo styles.
When do I pay for my Tuxedo?
A $20.00 down payment is required to reserve the tuxedo, and the balance is due upon pick-up. Ask the Fred's FormalWear store associate for full details.
When can my Tuxedo be picked up?
Prom tuxedos arrive in the store during the week immediately prior to the event date. Generally, tuxedos are available for pick up the day before your prom. If your tuxedo arrives earlier than the day before, you are welcome to pick it up at that time.
What happens if my Tuxedo does not fit?
All Fred's FormalWear stores carry a comprehensive supply of additional items and are equipped to perform minor alterations. Often, items can be exchanged or altered immediately. In the event that an item needs to be ordered, the local Service Center will do everything possible to arrange for the item to arrive in the store by the required date.
When should my TUXEDO need to be returned?
The day after the event. Most Fred's FormalWear stores are open Sundays for your convenience. |
Hot Topics
Meeting your date's parents.
Is this the first encounter of the parental kind? Don't worry. Just extend your hand, make eye contact and say, "Hi, my name is ________." Relax and have fun. Always tell her parents that it was nice meeting them - that's a great way to make a good impression. Be very polite, sit up straight and be respectful. You'll look great in your After Hours prom tux. Oh, and don't forget to "say cheese" and smile a lot for the hundred prom pictures her mom is going to want to take.
The Limo - What do I tip?
In a large city, a limo driver should be tipped 20% ( in a smaller city the tip can be 15%). If you are paying when you reach your prom destination, add the tip to the fare. If you are being billed, ask for the tip to be added on to your bill. Too complicated? Just take your usual ride to the prom, but be sure to wash it and clean out the inside ... your date won't appreciate empty food wrappers stuck to her fancy prom dress.
Restaurantitis?
Do yourself a monetary favor. Check out the menu of your chosen restaurant before prom night so there are no surprises or late-night dish washing incidents. Just keep your budget in mind when picking "the place" ... it won't impress your prom date if you have to ask her for help picking up the tab. Call 2 to 3 weeks before the prom to guarantee a reservation, then call a few days before the Prom to confirm your reservation. Remember, ladies are always seated first and order first.
Head of the line, please!
If you want to avoid the crowds when placing your Prom order, visit Fred's FormalWear on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Also, paying in full when you place your formalwear order will save you lots of time when you pick up your prom tuxedo. You don't want to wait until the last minute and then have to borrow your Uncle Charlie's 1972 burgundy velvet tux. |
